Training Tidbit: Referenced Custom Fields

Do you currently use referenced custom fields in Payroll? Do you know what a referenced custom field is?

Referenced custom fields are defined to track additional information for employees in the Employee File on which reports and checks can be sorted. For example, a referenced custom field of Building can be added in order to track the buildings the employees work in and then various employee reports (or checks) can be printed and sorted by building.

When printing a payroll report, if the [vpr EmployeePersonnelReference].[NoCustomReferencedID] field appears as a Report Sorting field, you may click the Search button to select the desired referenced custom field (for example, Building) on which to sort the information included on the report.

To have the payroll checks printed in order by a particular referenced custom field, select the desired referenced custom field in the Sort Checks by Custom Referenced Field field within the Check Setup – Employees option.

For step-by-step instructions on adding a custom field, refer to the Custom Fields topic in the Help File.
