I have a penalty fee that should be on a payee check. How can I increase the amount of the payee check to include the fee?

Complete the following:

  • Enter the total amount for which the payee check should be written in the Override Payment field on the Deductions Payable screen (in the Deduction File) or the Taxes Payable screen (in the Tax File). Refer to the Adding a Deductions Payable or Taxes Payable Entry topic in the Help File for detailed steps on entering an override payment.
Note: The amount entered in the Override Payment field will remain there until you change or delete it.
  • After entering the override payment, complete the steps on the Payroll Check Cycle Checklist as normal.
  • After updating the payroll, delete the override payment entry on the payables screen. Refer to the Deleting a Deductions Payable or Taxes Payable Entry topic in the Help File for assistance in deleting the entry.
  • Manual journal entries will need to be completed to record the expense for the fee and also to adjust the payables account(s) on the balance sheet.
