FAQ: I have just realized that I did not withhold enough FIT and/or SIT (the FIT and/or SIT gross is incorrect) for an employee; what should I do?

I have just realized that I did not withhold enough FIT and/or SIT (the FIT and/or SIT gross is incorrect) for an employee; what should I do?

If there is a payroll that will be calculated before the end of the calendar year, do the following:

  • Complete a deduction/tax adjustment to increase the employee’s FIT and/or SIT gross by the applicable amounts. See the Entering Deduction/Tax Adjustments topic in the Help File for further information on completing a deduction/tax adjustment.
  • Include the deduction/tax adjustment batch when calculating the next payroll.

If there is not a payroll left for the calendar year, do the following:

  • Complete a deduction/tax adjustment for FIT and/or SIT for the employee, as follows:
    • Enter 0 in the Employee Amount field and select Replace with Override Amount or Gross as the action.
    • Enter the applicable gross amount for FIT and/or SIT for the employee in the Gross Amount field and select Replace with Override Amount or Gross as the action.
  • Calculate an extra payroll including the deduction/tax adjustment batch.
