Training Tidbit: For districts running a SQL Server version older than 2017, upgrade to SQL Server 2017 by February 2020

In an effort to continue our development at pace with supported technology, we will be upgrading our software to the latest released version of SQL Server – SQL Server 2017. As you may know, SQL Server 2008 R2 has reached its end of life date and will no longer be supported by Microsoft®.

If you are running a SQL Server version older than the 2017 version, you will need to upgrade to the 2017 version by February of 2020. Moving to SQL Server 2017 will ensure that the School Accounting System will function properly as we start taking advantage of the new features available.

How can I prepare?

  • Our installation package includes SQL Server Express, which is available to all customers. Most of our onsite customers are running the SQL Server Express version, as it can accommodate multiple users and databases sizes up to 10 GB. You may opt to use SQL Server Express for your organization. See our Hardware Recommendations for more information.
  • If you choose to upgrade to SQL Server 2017, you can do so at any time. When you are ready to complete the upgrade, please contact customer support for instructions on how to configure the SQL server instance and move the data.

What is another option?

  • If you would like to take this opportunity to offload the district’s hardware responsibility for the School Accounting System and move to our School Accounting System-Online (cloud) option, please see the second page of our Hardware Recommendations. Additionally, please contact Sales at sales@su-inc.com for more information regarding the cloud option and hosting fees for your organization.

If you have any concerns regarding your current hardware configuration or would like to speak with someone about the system recommendations, we encourage you to contact our Customer Support Department at 800.756.0035 ext. 2 or by emailing support@su-inc.com.
