FAQ: Is there a quick way to enter the Occupation Class Code of 28 for licensed teachers on the Iowa Retirement Report?

For Iowa school districts, to assign the applicable occupation class code to include on the retirement report for an employee, enter the appropriate 2-digit occupation class (11 for Education or 28 for Licensed Teachers) in the Member Number field for the retirement deduction on the Deductions screen in the Employee File.  The system assumes 11 for Education if the Member Number field is left blank, so the field only needs to be completed for the licensed teachers.

To quickly update the Member Number field to reflect 28 for the licensed teachers, use the Adjust Deductions option by completing the following:

  • From within the Employee File, select the Options menu and then Adjust Deductions.
  • On the Adjust Deductions screen, select Update Existing in the Adjust Option field.
  • Enter the ID for your retirement deduction in the Existing Deduction ID field.
  • In the Select Fields to Edit List, select the Member Number field.
  • In the Member Number field in the Deduction Information Fields section, enter 28.
  • In the Employee Selection List, select the employees that are licensed teachers by clicking the box for the Selected column to the left of an employee.  If desired, change the filters to modify the employees displayed.  Tip:  If all your licensed teachers are in one pay group defined for teachers, filter on the Pay Group ID column so that only the licensed teachers are listed, and then click the Select All button.
  • After selecting the applicable employees, click the Execute button.
  • When prompted, click Yes to continue.

Note:  For detailed instructions on the Adjust Deductions option, refer to the Adjusting Deductions topic in the Help File.
